Tomb Raider Sequel Has Been Confirmed

Good news, Tomb Raider fans! There *will* be a sequel to this year’s Tomb Raider game. A sequel had been hinted at when Dark Horse Comics announced a new Tomb Raider comic series was in the works but Phil Rogers, CEO for Square Enix Europe, put all the rumours to rest on his blog earlier today.

“Square Enix is in production with a number of next generation projects, including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which were announced at this year’s E3, and Thief coming in 2014. I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!”

So there you have it. There’s no news on a release date yet or any details about the sequel’s storyline but these will be announced in due course. Let’s see where Lara’s next adventure takes her…

UPDATE: Tomb Raider fans might like to know that there’s a next-gen “definitive edition” that’ll be out for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in late January 2014. This is not a sequel but a reworking of Tomb Raider 2013 that will feature improved graphics and include a bundle of downloadable content (e.g. multiplayer maps, costumes, and weapons) as well as a range of promotional material. Don’t miss it!

Hoping this one focuses a bit more on classic Tomb Raider platforming and puzzles than the reboot did :)

I hope so too. Fewer gun battles, more tombs, more puzzles, and no Sam (seriously, that girl was beginning to get on my nerves). I want the old globe-trekking, ass-kicking, puzzle-solving Lara back.
