Unearthed: 23rd-29th June 2014

Another week is drawing to a close and what a week it’s been for the Tomb Raider fandom. Not only was issue 5 of Dark Horse’s Tomb Raider comic series released this week, Crystal Dynamics also confirmed that a new Tomb Raider novel will be published this autumn.

And that’s not all. Here’s a round-up of the blog posts, articles, and tweets that caught my attention this week!

Tomb Raider News & Views:

  • Survivor Reborn are still running their milestone competition so if you’re interested in winning some TR merchandise, check out this video for more information!
  • TR fan NaNo Croft has created a fanpage in support of Core Design and their amazing work on the “classic” Tomb Raider games.
  • The Fandom Post’s Chris Beveridge has reviewed Tomb Raider #5 (warning: here there be spoilers!)
  • Tomb Raider voice actress Camilla Luddington answered 5 questions put forward by fans earlier this month. Sadly, none of her replies gave any clues as to the plot of the upcoming sequel…

Archaeology & Ancient History:

  • Archaeologists in Denmark have discovered the first metal hammer pendant to bear a runic inscription, which confirms the theory that the pendants are indeed depictions of Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.
  • April Holloway put together this little list of ten mythological creatures in ancient folklore.
  • A box containing 4,500-year-old food offerings from a royal tomb in Ur, Iraq, was found lying around in a laboratory at Brisol University. Needless to say, the food has long passed its sell-by date…

Just for Fun:

  • A group of Lego enthusiasts have created an enormous map depicting the highlights of Homer’s The Odyssey.
